As the year comes to a close, respected publications have started putting out their lists of what they believe are the best album of the year.
According to lists from Rolling stones and Time Magazine, in the top ten are some usual suspects as well as some surprises.
That Adele tops both lists with 21 is no surprise as she is expected to also sweep all major music award trophies having already made a strong showing at the Grammy nominations.
2nd in the Rolling Stone list and 3rd in the Time list is Watch The Throne by Jay Z and Kanye West who are the only rappers om both lists.
The only other rappers in the top ten are The Beastie Boys with Hot Sauce Committee Part II in Time’s list.
But without doubt, the biggest surprise is Odd future’s Frank Ocean’s Nostalgia, Ultra which sits pretty at number 5 on the Time list. The album was never even released commercially but it has created a lot of buzz, and earned a lot of critical acclaimed.
